A Checklist To Preparing For A New Floor
Ready for new floors? Maybe something a bit more modern and durable that fits your family’s current lifestyle? Or perhaps you’re just looking for something to increase your home’s resale value. From clearing the room of furniture and breakable items to removing baseboards and trim molding, the checklist is extensive. It’s a good thing Bert Vis Flooring Inc has you covered. Whatever flooring types you choose to have installed, here are ten necessary steps you need to take to prepare your home for a new floor installation.
1. Determine what rooms you would like new flooring or tile to be installed
When considering new flooring, you’ll need to think about how you use each room before you make any decisions. Hardwood might be great for one room, but the same isn’t always true across the hall. Based on the type of room, how much surface area is available, and your own tastes, you will have to figure out the type of flooring or tile you will need to order for each room.
2. Determine a budget you would like to stick with
The cost of installation will vary depending on a lot of factors. Nailing down the total project cost may be difficult as things can steer away from the original plan. But be aware that the estimate you’re given by the flooring estimator will be just that, an estimate. So keep an open mind here. It is also easy to get carried away with the various options available. Sit down with your estimator and figure out a budget based on the area you want flooring or tiles installed and the type of flooring you want.
3. Don’t forget to take measurements
If you are going the DIY way, do not forget to take measurements of the area you want to be done. Add 5%-10% extra to your final measurements for waste. The measurements will enable you to come up with budget estimations of the total cost of your flooring project. To avoid any inconvenience of having to reorder flooring materials, it is essential to order a few feet more. If enough materials are not ordered, first, you will have to plan your budget afresh. Secondly, your project may have to stall as you order more flooring materials and have to wait for the flooring to be shipped to the Bert Vis Flooring warehouse.
4. Come to our showroom to look at the different samples and flooring we carry
At Bert Vis Flooring Inc, we carry a wide range of flooring products. Whether you are in the market for hardwood, laminate, area rugs, luxury vinyl plank (LVP), luxury vinyl tile (LVT), vinyl sheet, ceramic tile, backsplash tile, or carpet, we have a wide selection of each with multiple brands. In addition to flooring, we carry quartz countertops by Cambria, Caesarstone, Silestone and quality paint by Para Paints. Come to our showroom to figure out exactly what type of flooring you want in each room.
5. Determine what type of flooring you would like to get installed
Choosing the type of flooring is far more complicated than just finding the best-looking product. Several other factors such as moisture, durability, costs, and more greatly influence a decision. All options that we provide have their own merits in terms of aesthetics, cost, durability, and other factors. Come to our showroom and our knowledgeable staff can talk about the specifics when it comes to your bedroom, bathroom, or kitchen. We will work with you to help you choose an aesthetic and functional solution for your needs.
6. Book a quote appointment
You do not need to know what type of flooring you would like in order to book a quote appointment. The estimator is there to take measurements of your room but also to guide you to what is the best flooring or tile for your room.
The estimator will help you plan the exact layout of your order, including how many tiles you will require and the cost for installation. As professionals, we will take the time to ensure you know exactly what you are paying for, and we won’t be satisfied until you’re satisfied.
7. Put down a deposit to get your flooring ordered
Once everything is decided, all that is left for you to do is put down a deposit so that we can order the necessary materials to start the project in time. All you have to do is wait for a call from our scheduler to let you know your flooring is here and that we are ready to schedule the installation.
8. Prepare your home
Prepare your home for new flooring. Move furniture (if you are able to), clear room of decor and things on the wall, so they don’t get broken. Be sure to do this step with plenty of time before flooring installers arrive. Essentially, look around the space and if it’s in the way or breakable, remove it!
9. Determine who removes the previous flooring
When you receive an installation estimate from your flooring estimator, be sure to inquire and request an all-inclusive project quote. This means you need to ask your estimator if they are charging for the removal of the previous floor or if you will need to do it yourself. Take the previous flooring out if that was discussed with the estimator.
10. Enjoy your flooring
Now all that is left for you to do is welcome the installers into your house and get excited for the new flooring you have invested in! Once it is completed, do not forget to enjoy the feel of the new flooring under your feet!
