Five Tips For A Better Flooring Experience
There is no home decorating challenge quite so frustrating as old, worn-out floors. You can paint the walls, add accessories, and even replace old furniture on your own, but replacing an entire floor is a much bigger and costlier job. However, these days there are a lot of different flooring options that are very affordable.
Each type of flooring has its advantages and disadvantages, and a type that is ideal for one room could be a terrible choice for another. So, before you get started on your flooring project, it pays to do some research on the different types of flooring and what works the best in your space. To keep you informed about the best flooring possibilities, here are five tips for a better flooring experience.
Tip #1: Avoid dark floors
Choosing a floor that isn’t too dark is vital if you’re concerned about dust and dirt showing. Dark floors contrast the dirt on the floor, making it more visible to you and your guests. Avoiding dark floors not only prevents you from having to continually sweep or clean, but it can also brighten up your room!
Tip #2: Choose a plush carpet if you have pets
Bert Vis Flooring has excellent plush carpet samples to choose from. If you have a pet, we always recommend getting a plush carpet instead of Berber. This is because if your pet’s nails dig into the carpet, there is a higher chance of pulling the looped fibers loose in the carpet. The carpet fibers are already un-looped with plush, so it is typically the best option for pets - not to mention very comfortable to walk on!
Tip #3: Choose a polished tile for walls
Suppose you’re looking for ceramic or porcelain tile for shower walls. In that case, it is recommended to go with a polished tile rather than a matte finish. This is for cleaning purposes. It is much easier to maintain and clean a polished wall tile than scrubbing a matte tile.
On the floor, it is recommended to choose a matte finish for safety. When tiles get wet, they become very slippery, so it is essential to select a tile that promotes safety.
Tip #4: Engineered hardwood is more price effective and easier to maintain
Many customers think that engineered hardwood is more expensive than solid, however, it usually proves to be the opposite. Engineered hardwood is simply a thinner layer of real wood, whereas solid is a thicker layer of real wood. Engineered hardwood is compacted of the multi-layer core to prevent swelling of planks. Having a multi-layered core is also more manageable in terms of maintenance. It is less critical for humidity levels to be regulated in the house for engineered hardwood than it is for solid hardwood.
Tip #5: Avoid laminate if you want a 100% waterproof floor
Although the media may suggest otherwise, expecting laminate to serve as a waterproof floor is a risk. Even if it does hold up alright to moisture, it still holds the potential for the boards to cup and gap. Spills happen, especially in a busy household. Choosing laminate is a great option if you’re after scratch resistance, but not if you’re after a waterproof floor.
