The Founder And Pioneer Of Bert Vis Flooring Inc.

As a family-owned and operated residential flooring company, at Bert Vis Flooring Inc., we have been retailing a wide variety of flooring products. We also have a team of professional installers that offer quality installation services. We’ve branched out and now even retail quartz countertops and Para paints.

While we are passionate about expanding our services, we believe that our business would cease to exist without our founder, Bert Vis, and the flooring industry would lack the genuine customer service that a family-owned and operated company has to offer.

Bert pioneered the company from the very beginning in 1978. He dreamed of starting his own company that would follow in his father’s footsteps. His father had a flooring store in the Netherlands, where Bert grew up. Once an adult, Bert immigrated to Canada to pursue his dream of bringing quality service and workmanship to his new country. 

Bert quickly became known as a well-respected and driven business leader. He had a natural ability to interact easily with customers and a gifted eye for detail that could guide customers through the decision process of picking a floor that best suited their needs.

With the Lord’s blessing, the business continued to grow and flourish, soon outgrowing its garage location. In 1984, Bert moved the business to a rented storefront in Smithville, Ontario, and also incorporated the business. After a few years, the Smithville Bakery closed its doors, and Bert Vis Flooring Inc. purchased their building and again relocated the business—this time just a few doors down from the rented location. In 1997, Bert Vis Flooring Inc. purchased Peninsula Tile in Grimsby, starting a second location. A few short years later, Will’s Motors relocated from Smithville to Grimsby, leaving behind a large vacant building. Bert Vis Flooring purchased the building and amalgamated the two small locations into one large location.

While founding the company, Bert took many risks. Also, when he immigrated to Canada from Holland, he had to face many hurdles. With each hurdle, he grew in experience and gained a knowledgeable business sense. As his business grew, so did the square footage of the buildings he purchased so as to accommodate the increasing staff and flooring products. Each purchase was a risk but proved to be a blessing as we continued to outgrow our space.

Bert was also willing to invest in other retail opportunities within the company. For years, the company was involved with designing, selling, and installing kitchen cabinets. And before that, upholstery was second to the flooring needs of customers. Window coverings were also popular and sold within the company. 

As you can see, Bert was not afraid to take hold of opportunities that would compliment the flooring business and add convenience to customer needs. As a result of his faith-driven intellect, we also got to experience the blessing of a sizable retail location and the wonderful support of customer loyalty.

Despite all the success, Bert continues to have a servant’s heart. He is always willing to give of himself and go the extra mile to satisfy customers and employees. He believes that hard work and customer/employee appreciation will speak wonders about our family-operated company. 

Not only do customers get a beautiful new floor, but they also get to have a wonderful experience with genuine people who thrive to go out of their way to make sure all their customers’ needs and concerns are met. It is a pleasure to serve our customers at Bert Vis Flooring Inc., and it has been a great pleasure to work for Bert throughout the years.

We also enjoy our work environment, which is a family environment. Some of us are actual members of the Vis family, while others have become part of our family through the years of working side by side.

In conclusion, we would like to say that through the sweat and the tears of building a company from scratch, we truly care about how our customers are treated and the quality of workmanship our installers offer. We’re not just selling a product, we are selling what we stand for, and that is what has gotten us to where we are today.

Our Christian heritage also plays a large role in our success. We’re not just working for customer satisfaction; we are working out of thankfulness for our Heavenly Father, who has graciously blessed our efforts.
