Frequently Asked Questions

1  -  What's the difference between vinyl sheet flooring and fiber sheet flooring?

Vinyl sheet flooring has a felt bottom with vinyl in the middle and a finish layer of urethane on top.  Fiber sheet flooring is made from fiberglass with a finish layer of urethane on top.  Fiber sheet flooring is thicker and will feel softer than traditional sheet vinyl.  Vinyl sheet flooring is more susceptible to mildew causing floor discolouration than Fiber sheet flooring.

2  -  Can sheet flooring be laid loose or does it have to be glued ?

Traditional sheet vinyl flooring cannot be laid loose.  Although Fiber sheet flooring can be laid loose, fluctuation in temperature and humidity can impact the sub-straight causing the floor to buckle.  Using full spread glue to install sheet flooring is the best installation method.

3  -  Can the new sheet flooring be installed directly over my old sheet flooring?

Yes, If the old sheet flooring:
-has been glued down with full spread glue, not just at the perimeter
-was installed properly over an underlayment and/or smooth surface
-was not already installed directly over another sheet flooring
    -is in relatively good condition
-is skim-coated with an embossment filler

4  -  My room is over 12' wide, will seams in the sheet flooring be visible?

Seam visibility will depend on the floor pattern selected.  A sheet floor that simulates a ceramic tile allows for seams to easily be hidden in the grout line.  A sheet floor that has no lines will result in seams that are visible.

5  -  The seams in my old floor have opened up over time, Will the seams in my new floor last?

Vinyl seams open up over time because vinyl is prone to shrinking.  The urethane sealers used to seal the seams today are far better than the sealers of the past keeping the seams together.  Fiber floors don't shrink and therefore won't develop seam issues.

6 - Can I use a steam cleaner on my new sheet vinyl floor?

No, a steam cleaner is not recommended and may void your warranty.  Use only cleaners recommended by the manufacturer.
