1 - Which carpet will last in a high traffic room?

For high traffic areas, especially halls or stairs, a durable carpet is needed. The fiber used to make the carpet is of most importance for high traffic areas. Carpet made from 100% nylon has proved itself to be very durable. A new fiber by Mohawk used to make SmartStrand® carpet combines durability with stain resistance. Carpet made from polyester, olefin, or polypropylene will not stand up as well as nylon or SmartStrand® in a high traffic room.

2 - Which carpet is pet friendly?

Berber carpet is not ideal as a pet may get its claws hooked on the loops of the carpet. For this reason a plush carpet is more pet friendly than a berber. It is also recommended to have a Stainmaster™ or SmartStrand® for stain protection.

3 - Is carpet okay for those who suffer with allergies?

Many people believe that carpet is a source of poor indoor air quality that can negatively affect overall respiratory health. Many scientific studies conducted recently have now proven that the truth, in fact, is the complete opposite of this widely held belief.
In 2005, the German Allergy and Asthma Society (DAAB) released results from a study that proved indoor fine dust particle levels are reduced by the use of carpet in a room. Carpet acts as a perfect natural filter by trapping and immobilizing potential allergy-causing particles settling on the floor surface and prevents them from re-entering the indoor air system. By trapping particles on the floor surface, wall-to-wall carpet prevents these particles from becoming re-airborne, minimizing the number of allergens in the breathing zone. The allergens are easily removed from the carpet surface through proper maintenance and regular vacuuming. A ten year study completed in Sweden further supports that there is no link between carpet in the home and the incidence of asthma or allergies.
