Bert Vis Flooring – Hamilton Flooring Retailer
Carpet is a product that has been around for decades, and it’s a product that has a variety of different options when it comes to look, feel, and fibre. Carpet’s most appealing quality is the comfort and warmth that it provides for your home. It’s a popular choice for bedrooms, because when you get out of bed, your feet will touch a warm, comfortable floor rather than a potentially cold and hard floor. It can also add warmth to your living room, basement, hallway, and stairs. Carpet is also not a polished product, so you don’t have to worry about slipping on your floor.
There are three main types of carpet: plush carpet, berber carpet, and a combination of both plush and berber. Plush carpet is a type of carpet in which the yarn loops are cut off at the top to produce an upright pile. It comes in a variety of different styles and thicknesses, ranging from a very low pile plush carpet, to a thick, high pile shag carpet. Plush carpet is often very soft, making it comfortable to walk on and great for children when they’re playing on the floor. Berber carpet is a looped carpet that often has a very tight weave. Berber carpet generally has a low pile because of the tight weave, and this makes berber carpet very durable. It’s great for high traffic areas, and it does not flatten very easily. A combination of both berber and plush is a great way to incorporate both the soft texture of plush carpet with the durability of berber carpet, and it also allows for some beautiful patterns in the carpet.
At Bert Vis Flooring, a Hamilton Flooring retailer, we carry carpet from many different suppliers, including Mohawk, Beaulieu, Godfrey Hirst, Lexmark, Richmond and Kraus. Mohawk supplies a well-known product called SmartStrand, which we highly recommended for high traffic areas. SmartStrand is a product that is both durable and stain resistant. SmartStrand’s stain-resistant is inherent to the fibre, so it never wears off. You can clean stains out of it with just water, and you never rub off the stain resistance. This is why a lifetime warranty on stains is offered with SmartStrand carpet, even red wine, mustard and bleach! Not only is it stain and wear resistant, it is also very resistant to fading and has great air quality properties, making it excellent for people with allergies. The SmartStrand carpet in our showroom comes in a variety of different colours and styles, giving you lots of choices for your home.
We also have a selection of wool carpets in our showroom, manufactured by Godfrey Hirst. Wool is a durable carpet that has been around longer than any other carpet fibre, and therefore has proven itself to be durable over time. It is environmentally friendly, and it improves the air quality of the room where it’s located. Wool carpet is not stain resistant, so it’s important to clean up a spill as soon as it occurs. Stains in wool carpet, however, will fade over time, a quality that is unique to wool carpets. Wool carpet is naturally flame retardant as well.
Our other suppliers, along with Mohawk and Godfrey Hirst, provide us with samples of carpets that are made of nylon, polyester, and other materials that are sometimes unique to individual companies. We carry quality products at Bert Vis Flooring, most of which are made in the United States, and our sales staff will be available to help you choose the product and fibre type that will function best in the area that you want to place the carpet.
Kraus, Beaulieu, and Mohawk also offer a variety of commercial carpets for businesses, or for people who want an extremely durable carpet in their home. These commercial carpets are mainly berber carpets, and they often have a variety of colours mixed into one sample. This will help to hide any dirt or stains that might come onto your carpet in extremely high traffic areas, and the tight weave of the carpet will prevent it from wearing quickly.
Choosing a good underlay is very important when installing your carpet. We generally recommend the maxi-gold underlay, a product that will hold up well, and also provide extra cushioning, adding to the comfort of the carpet. You could choose to go with an even thicker underlay that not only adds to the comfort of your floor but will likely offer more of a sound barrier as well. We also carry a spill guard underlay, which might be a good idea for carpet that’s being installed in the basement. If you have rugs in your home that you worry about slipping, we carry anti-slip that can be placed under the rugs to prevent any movement, and eliminate any safety concerns that you might have.
The warranties on the carpet that you choose vary, depending on the fibre that the carpet is made of and the supplier company manufacturing the product. Important things to remember regarding the warranty of your carpet is that you need to keep proof of your purchase, and have it installed by a professional installer in order to guarantee that it was installed properly. You should also have your carpet cleaned by a professional cleaner approximately every 18 months, and keep proof of purchase again. Some of the warranties are prorated warranties, so the coverage will go down over time. Make sure you look into exactly what your carpet warranty covers, including what’s covered under the stain warranty, to ensure that there are no surprises.
